Thought from the week

Have a pet? I could really use your help!

Alright everyone. This one’s a little different than my usual Friday email.

I want your feedback on a new project I’ve been diving deep into called Luna.

👉 If you want to read the story behind it, keep scrolling.

👉 Short on time? Just hit this 68-second survey link. I’d love your thoughts!

The story:

Some of you know I basically grew up in an animal hospital.

Both of my parents are veterinarians.

It's a miracle I was able to have kids after the number of times I had to sit on the X-ray table as the designated timeout spot.

Anyway… my parents always bring up two things:

A) There’s a massive veterinary shortage.

B) A huge percentage of vet visits don’t actually need to happen.

On top of that, pet care has gotten wildly expensive.

Big vet bills = no fun. So guess what happens?

Friends and family constantly text my mom and dad asking the ultimate question:

“Do I need to take my pet to the vet?”

In over 50% of cases, the answer is no.

But if you Google it? The internet will scream YES, your pet is dying, get to the vet now!

Where the vet 9 times out of 10 says, “They’re fine.”

Watching how many people reach out to my parents sparked an idea:

What if I could digitize my parents?

Like many of you reading this, I’ve been geeking out on AI lately. Mostly for Pono and our clients.

But then I started working with my parents to train an AI model that could act like a digital veterinarian.

At first, the results were garbage.

But after months of tuning the model with solid research, smart prompt engineering, and a ton of real-world case data from the animal hospital… it started sounding exactly like my parents.

I started thinking: we might actually be onto something.

Then one Friday night at 10:30 pm, my friend Greg called.

His dog had been puking for almost 3 hours. He remembered me talking about Luna and asked if we could try it.

I plugged in the details and Luna worked her magic.

Within two minutes, she gave us:

A) Confidence we didn’t need to rush to the emergency vet

B) A plan for what to check and how to care for the dog at home

C) Clear guidance on when to actually go to the vet if things got worse

I also had Luna set up to connect with a virtual vet within 30 minutes if we wanted extra assurance.

Just in case, I drove to Greg’s house to double-check myself.

The next morning, I ran Luna’s answers by my mom.

Nailed it.

✅ 1 win for Luna

✅ 1 win for Greg (who saved $1,200 avoiding the emergency vet)

✅ 1 win for the pup (most important)

That was the moment I knew this could really help people and pets.

So, where’s Luna now?

She’s in training. Getting fed tons of test cases. And soon, she’ll be available as an iOS and Android app.

I’m at the point where I could REALLY use your help and get your thoughts.

Here’s a short, anonymous survey (so please be brutally honest).

And if you made it this far, thank you!

Seriously. I appreciate you more than you know.

Luna's first patient of course was our dog Mia :)

Interesting find/tool of the week

Ok this is going to sound silly, but my favorite tool recently has been ExcaliDraw.

It's basically the modern day version of Microsoft Paint.

It's been awesome for showing clients how we can build marketing funnels in a very visual way.

It’s like:

🧠 Client brain = “Huh?”
✏️ I doodle a few arrows and boxes
🎯 Client brain = “OHHH I GET IT!”

And I just feel more artsy ;)

My dad sent this throwback over recently. My first big win in life was getting Reserve Champion steer at our local fair!

See you all next week!
