Let’s dive in 👇

Thought from the week

Two nights ago, I’m at a family dinner, grinding through the usual “how’s life” snoozefest. How’s your blind dog doing? Got that ankle surgery yet? The usual.

Then I catch a glimpse of my introverted cousin-in-law across the table, huddled over his plate of spaghetti.

He looks… excited.

For him, this is rare.

He’s mid-sentence, totally fired up about something I know nothing about.

Anime.

I love seeing people get fired up about a topic, even if I know absolutely nothing about it.

As per usual, I dove in with an artillery strike of questions about this interest.

Turns out, for years he’s been working on a side project called Anime Trending.

He absolutely loves it. Zero goals. Pure passion.

This little side project is actually a decent business with a huge following raking in 700,000 visitors a day to the site with an audience of over 1 million people.

Analytics dashboard titled “Traffic & Engagement” showing 702,302 total visits worldwide for September 2024, up 59.35% from last month

To my cousin in law though, this was no business.

It was just a bit of himself pushed out to the world.

I love these kinds of stories. I think about it a lot actually.

The best businesses aren’t always born from some big grand plan or million-dollar spreadsheet.

Sometimes, they just start with you, pushing yourself out into the world.

So here’s the question I think we should all ask ourselves: What would you build if it was just you, pushed out into the world?

Interesting find/tool of the week

Nothing interesting enough to report this week!

Great-grandparents standing on a sunny backyard deck, the grandmother holding a smiling baby wearing a light blue bow and overalls

This past week was all about seeing the great grand parents! 100% worth the 20 hours of car time driving around the PNW to visit family.

See you all next week!
